Have you ever wondered how this whole blogging thing works? How do people come up with interesting topics and write it in a way that is engaging and easy to follow?

Here I share with you a few tips and tricks that I have learned recently. I’m only new to blogging myself and needed to educate myself on how to tackle this. Let me share with you some of the things I’ve learned so far.

#1 Write as you would talk

Try to avoid overly complicated wording. People may loose interest quickly if they have trouble understanding what it is that you are trying to say. If there is an easier word to replace your complicated word choose this instead.

This is actually a good thing because it means that you don’t have to be a professional writer to start blogging. It is much more important for you to be conversational in your articles. Also keep in mind who your audience is and write in a way that resonates with them.

#2 Ask yourself how your article is adding value

When you choose a topic you should ask yourself how you can add value to your audience. For instance you could add value by solving your reader’s problem or offering entertainment and amusement. Ask yourself what your target audience may enjoy to read and learn about?

If people feel you are wasting their time and not answering their questions, they may not bother reading on. A great way to come up with inspiration is to look through Pinterest. Simply enter your subject in the search bar and see what others have written about it. What problems have they solved with their articles? Make sure you don’t copy their content, but use this for some guidance on sharing your own content and ideas.

#3 How to structure your blog for readability?

Many people are time-poor and need to be able to scan through an article quickly to absorb the relevant information. To ensure your readers have a great experience when reading your blog articles, you could add paragraphs, bullet points, subtitles and images to break up your content.

You could even ask a friend or family member to have a read before you hit “publish”. Getting honest feedback from a trusted source could give you ideas on how to improve the layout or content of your blog post.

#4 Avoid spelling and grammar mistakes

You should check your blog article for spelling and grammar mistakes before hitting “publish”. If your content is full of errors it could hurt your credibility and professionalism. If you feel, that you need some assistance with this, you should check out grammarly. This is a software that is offering proofreading of your content. The basic version is FREE.

#5 Practice Makes Perfect

Try not to overthink your first article and believe it has to be perfect. We all have to start somewhere and possibly make mistakes along the way. That’s totally normal. Simply stay true to yourself and communicate your ideas which your audience hopefully finds valuable and/or entertaining. I strongly believe that the more you practice, the better and faster you’ll get at writing engaging content in an authentic way.

I hope you find these tips helpful and trust they will be of guidance to you when writing your own first blog article. If you need help with setting up your blog, please refer to my services here.
